15 Years of BConnected: What We’ve Learned Along the Way

September 3, 2026

Fifteen years ago, social media looked very different.

Businesses were only beginning to understand how platforms like Facebook could support their marketing. Short-form video had not taken over our feeds. Artificial intelligence was not reshaping how brands create content, and many of today’s most-used platforms did not even exist.

Through every new platform, algorithm update and passing trend, BConnected has continued to learn, adapt and grow.

To celebrate our 15th anniversary, BConnected founder Brad Cebulski sat down for 15 questions about the company’s beginnings, the lessons he has learned and where the agency is headed next.

Starting With a Better Way

The idea for BConnected began while Brad was still in college.

As part of a student organization, Brad and his classmates relied on traditional fundraisers like T-shirt sales and brat stands. Although the group worked hard, it continued raising roughly the same amount of money each year.

Brad believed there had to be a better way.

The students were studying sales and marketing, so he created an agency that operated within the student organization and helped businesses with their marketing. The idea became a successful fundraiser and gave Brad firsthand evidence that many businesses were not doing much with social media.

After graduation, he saw an opportunity to help companies use social media more effectively. That opportunity eventually became BConnected.

The Value of Learning and Evolving

The original vision for BConnected was a team of social media generalists. Brad believed everyone should be able to do everything.

Over time, however, the agency learned that sustainable growth requires people with different strengths and specialties.

Today, the BConnected team includes strategists, client communication leaders, content creators, and other specialists who contribute their expertise to the larger client strategy. Honestly, Brad wishes we would have made this change earlier, but we made it eventually!

That shift reflects one of the most important lessons from the last 15 years: staying relevant requires a willingness to change.

BConnected’s Basic Behaviors have played a major role in that evolution. Behaviors such as “Never Stop Learning,” “Have a Strategy First Mindset,” and “Create and Collaborate” encourage our team to remain curious, adapt to change, and make decisions based on what will best serve our clients.

The social media industry never stops evolving, which means neither can we.

Social Media Must Support Real Results

Early in his career, Brad believed the value of social media would eventually speak for itself.

If a brand increased its reach, engagement, and awareness, people would recognize the value of the work. While those metrics can still provide useful insights, they are not always enough to demonstrate meaningful business impact.

Businesses need to understand how marketing contributes to their broader goals.

That may include website traffic, qualified leads, sales, customer retention, brand recognition or other measurable outcomes. Social media cannot exist separately from the rest of a company’s strategy.

This realization has shaped the way BConnected works with clients today. Rather than viewing social media as an isolated collection of posts, we consider the complete digital customer journey.

What happens after someone watches a video? Where does the campaign direct them? What experience do they have when they visit the website? Is the content reaching the right audience? Can the results be connected to a real business objective?

The answers to those questions help transform content from something a brand simply publishes into something that supports growth.

Creativity and Strategy Need Each Other

One of the most common debates in marketing is whether creativity or strategy matters more.

The reality is that effective marketing needs both.

Strong strategy helps a brand identify its audience, clarify its goals and measure performance. Strong creative work captures attention, communicates emotion and gives people a reason to care.

Focusing too heavily on creativity can sometimes result in content that looks impressive but does not serve a clear purpose. Focusing only on data can produce content that is technically strategic but fails to connect with real people.

The best work happens when creativity and strategy support each other.

That balance requires marketers to set aside their egos, remain open to what the results are telling them, and recognize that sometimes an exceptional creative idea can outperform expectations.

Building a Business Means Building a Team

Another major lesson from the BConnected journey is that a company often reflects its leadership.

A leader’s habits, insecurities, and decision-making style can influence the entire culture of an organization. Instability at the leadership level may create stress or burnout throughout the company. Calm, thoughtful leadership can help create a more consistent and supportive environment.

Brad openly acknowledges that his approach to leadership and hiring has changed.

Earlier in his career, he sometimes believed that if a talented person found the right home at BConnected, he could help fix every issue and bring out their potential. Through experience, he learned that building a great team is less about trying to change people and more about patiently hiring people who already demonstrate the traits that align with the company’s culture.

Talent matters, but so do accountability, collaboration, curiosity, and respect.

The people who embody those qualities are the ones who have helped make BConnected what it is today.

Looking Toward the Next 15 Years

BConnected began by helping businesses establish a presence on social media. Today, our work has expanded into a more strategic approach that considers the entire customer experience.

We are exploring more elevated campaigns, influencer marketing, media buying, website experiences, and integrated content strategies. This broader perspective allows us to build stronger partnerships, demonstrate clearer results, and help clients grow across multiple points of the customer journey.

Although the agency has changed significantly, our commitment remains the same: continue learning, create meaningful work, and help brands connect with the people they want to reach.

Fifteen years in business is an exciting milestone, but it is also a reminder that no person or company ever has everything figured out.

As Brad explained during the interview, each of us sees the world through our own window. We understand our experiences and perspectives, while someone may see something completely different from their perspective.

Remaining open to those different perspectives is how we continue to improve.

We are grateful to every team member, client, partner, and supporter who has trusted BConnected over the last 15 years. You have helped us grow, evolve, and become the agency we are today.

Here’s to everything we have learned so far and everything still ahead.
